How teams can qualify for semi-finals in T20 World Cup 2026: Super 8 stage rules and format explained
The Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2026 is where the competition intensifies to narrow down the field to the final four. After a group stage that saw major upsets, including Australia’s exit at the hands of Zimbabwe, the best eight teams of the tournament are set to fight it out.
The Super 8 phase begins on February 21 and concludes on March 1.
Zimbabwe defeat Sri Lanka by 6 wickets at T20 World Cup
The eight teams that advanced from the initial group stage have been split into two groups of four. In this stage, each team plays the other three in their group once (round-robin format).
Only the top two teams from Group 1 and Group 2 will qualify for the semi-finals. If teams finish level on points after their three matches, then the number of wins will be taken into consideration. After that, Net Run Rate (NRR) will be the primary factor that will be used to determine who moves forward. Group 1 winner will face Group 2 runner up.
Group 1 matches are being held across Indian cities, including Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata. Group 2 matches are hosted in Sri Lanka (Colombo and Kandy).
